Podle nejnovějších zpráv agentury Bloomberg se o podobný projekt nyní snaží také japonský průmyslový koncern Mitsubishi Electric právě ve spolupráci s JAXA. Během následujících tří desetiletí hodlají investovat do projektu až 21 mld. dolarů.
Cílem je vytvořit solární farmu o výkonu 1 GW sestávající ze čtyř čtverečních kilometrů solárních panelů. Ty mají být umístěny 36 000 km nad povrchem naší planety. Elektrárna by pak dokázala dodávat energii až 294 000 průměrným domácnostem v Tokiu.
